CHAPTER 10 · NETHERLANDS

Return to work and suitable work

Short answer

Where possible, reintegration starts with a return to your own work, with adjustments if necessary. If that is not feasible, suitable work is sought within the organisation and then, where appropriate, with another employer.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Turn advice into work arrangements

Discuss hours, duties, pace, aids, workplace and review dates without disclosing the diagnosis to the employer.

  2. 2

Build up work in a verifiable way

Record what will be tried, for how long and when it will be reviewed. Report promptly if implementation differs from the agreed advice.

  3. 3

    Explore other suitable work

If your own work is not feasible, discuss suitable roles within the company and, where necessary, outside the company.

  4. 4

    Keep your work profile separate

Skills, experience and voluntarily selected work preferences may be added to Grovea Work. Medical information and UWV documents remain in the protected Rights area.

Deadlines and responsibilities

  • Employee: contribute actively, try suitable work and provide feedback.
  • Employer: investigate adjustments and suitable opportunities.
  • Occupational physician or UWV adviser: provide functional advice within their own role.

Documents and evidence

  • Current functional advice
  • Action Plan (Plan van aanpak)
  • Overview of work tried and evaluations
  • Vacancy or job description without a medical attachment

WHEN HELP IS NEEDED

Do not wait while a deadline is running

Do not refuse suitable work without having the consequences assessed. If you believe work is unsuitable, record specifically which duty or condition differs and request consultation or independent advice.
